Locating You in Case of an Emergency

Carova Beach Volunteer Fire and Rescue serves the needs of residents, property owners, and the many visitors that travel to the area every year. One of the most important factors in responding to any emergency is your ability to provide 911 with accurate and detailed information on your location.

  • Please ensure that your house number is clearly visible for first responders.
  • Make sure that your guests and visitors are aware of your house number and street name.

Have a Fire Escape Plan

Minutes count when a house fire occurs. Whether you are a resident, property owner, or visitor, you need to know how to escape in case of a fire.

  • Know two ways out of every room.  Remember that windows can be exits in an emergency.
  • Close doors behind you. A closed door restricts air flow and may slow fire spread.
  • Check your smoke alarms. 3 out of 5 fire deaths happen in homes with no smoke alarms or no operational smoke alarms.

For more information on creating your fire escape plan, see the NFPA Escape Plan.

Smoke Alarms

Smoke alarms are a key part of a home fire escape plan.

  • Smoke alarms must be replaced every 10 years or according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Smoke alarms should be tested monthly.
  • The recommended practice is to replace batteries in smoke alarms twice a year.

For more information on smoke alarms, see NFPA Smoke Alarms at Home.
